This two-time team captain was drafted in the 12th round (305th overall) in the 1981 NFL Draft and was an integral part of the Saints 3-4 defensive scheme for 13 seasons. Known for his versatility and durability, Wilks played both inside on the nose and outside at end, while playing all 16 games eight times for New Orleans. In 183 contests (eighth in franchise history), Wilks totaled 45.5 sacks (10th in club record books) while also occupying blockers to allow the “Dome Patrol” linebacking corps to have free reign on opposing quarterbacks and ball carriers. Wilks was instrumental in the first four-playoff appearances in franchise history (1987, 1990-92). His best game as a Saint came against the Eagles in a must win contest, where Wilks had a career-high three and a half sacks.
