After starring at LSU, Dalton Hilliard was selected in the second round (31st overall) by the Saints in the 1986 NFL Draft. In eight seasons in the Black and Gold, Hilliard displayed excellent vision, agility, and toughness as a ball carrier. He was known for his ability to make defenders miss in the open field and was equally effective as a receiver, making him a valuable weapon in the Saints’ offense. The running back appeared in 108 games for New Orleans, totaling 4,164 rushing yards and 39 touchdowns while adding 249 catches for 2,233 receiving yards and 14 scores. After battling to gain the starting job, Hilliard’s breakout season came in year four, recording 1,262 rushing yards and 13 scores to go along with 52 receptions for 514 yards and five touchdowns. His breakout campaign totaling a league-best 18 touchdowns earned him second team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl selection. Hilliard was a member of the 1991 division champion team and ranks top five in club record books for rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.
