Meet The Saints Legend Fred McAfee

Fred McAfee was drafted by New Orleans in the sixth round (154th overall) out of Mississippi College in the 1991 NFL Draft. After a college career in which he finished as the school’s all-time leader in rushing yards, touchdowns and all-purpose yards, McAfee led the Saints with 494 rushing yards and two scores in just nine games as a rookie. After spending his first three years with the Saints, he went on to play with the Cardinals, Steelers and Buccaneers from 1994-1999 before returning to New Orleans in 2000 where he would spend the last seven years of his career. In 10 seasons with the Black and Gold, he was known primarily as a star on special teams and team captain, posting 120 tackles, two forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and 1,728 kick return yards. In 2002, he was a special teams selection to the All-Pro/Pro Bowl teams. Since his retirement in 2006, McAfee has remained with the organization and serves as the Vice President of Player Development.
